Research origin

Many temples have found regular pulpits built. It is normal to have a pulpit in a place of worship, no matter how small or large. However, nowadays, it is found that the pulpit of the temple is no longer in use today. It is doubtful why, for a certain period of time, there was a popularity of building them. In addition, the craftsmanship was also elaborate showing competence, skills, profound understanding and the importance of displaying artistic talent that however is not used today. This is an issue that should be answered from the perspectives of people in the past and the present days to find answers to understand and to determine the direction in which creativity can continue.

The research problem of this project is therefore not to find answers about the existence, use, or not of culture only but it should help to clarify and see the importance, including further development. Wisdom from the pulpit evidence that appears especially building techniques, selection of different structural materials which has not yet been compiled into knowledge. The researcher also wants to find the answer to find the possibility from bringing knowledge that is analyzed into examples of contemporary creations and evaluating their successes in adapting to the contemporary.

The case study of the pulpit lacks a thoroughly analyzed study; therefore, this knowledge is not widespread. A study to find knowledge that has not yet been disclosed and recorded in writing. Therefore, it should be able to see results from the wisdom of the craftsman or creator and can be integrated with other sciences or knowledge. In addition, the form of the pulpit that appears in the form of high-level craftsmanship is characterized by the use of the pulpit in the Ayutthaya period as a model. It is therefore an issue that should be studied in order to find answers to the return to the popular style, functionality and beauty value, even though the time is hundreds of years apart. However, the reincarnation of Ayutthaya art in the pulpit still has specific characteristics that reflect beauty, meaning, ideas and changes in culture even found a contemporary pulpit in many houses. But still there has not been a comparative study of the model and interpretation from the characteristics fine art that appears to explain beliefs related to Buddhism. In terms of functionality and beauty, there are also analyzes and art theory principles to help explain such as Chawee Ngam Ma Charoen, etc.
